昨日は、木曜午餐会での素晴らしい講演、ありがとうございました。確かに、対馬丸の悲劇は、これまであまりにも語り継がれてこなかったという経緯がありました。だからと言って、忘れ去られてもいいというものではなく、戦争の悲劇として、多くの国民の心の中に記憶されねばならない事件だろうと思っています。こうして、松木さんのような有名な方が「語り部」として日本全国を、そしてこうしてハワイにまでお出かけになって皆さんに知らせる努力をされていることに本当に頭が下がります。

ご承知のように、ハワイには実に多くの沖縄からの移民の方々がいらっしゃいます。そして日本本土からの移民よりはずっと強い団結心のもと、多くの団体も存在しております。私どもの午餐会でも８０％以上のメンバーがこの「対馬丸の悲劇」を承知しております。もっと事件の真相、それ以外のこともたくさん知りたいという方もいます。今後ともこうした活動をお続けになり、また来年もハワイで講演して頂けるようお願いしたいと思います。

Dear Shimmyo san, Thank you for your email. We enjoyed meeting all of the members of the Mokuyogosankai and thank you for making it possible. We appreciate the opportunity for sharing about the Tsushimamaru incident, and we were especially pleased to be able to meet some of the people with direct connections to it. Thank you also for transporting us to our hotel afterwards. It was most helpful!   I found the Mokuyogosankai website, so we will enjoy keeping up with your group's activities.  If it works out, we would be happy to meet you again next year. We expect to visit Hawaii again in March and will let you know the exact dates when they are decided. After getting used to warm Hawaii, we felt quite cold arriving back in Tokyo.
